The New Mexico State Lottery Scholarship is an educational grant provided to high school graduates of the State of New Mexico who have intentions or are currently enrolled in a New Mexico post secondary institution. It was created by the New Mexico Legislature, and its funds are derived from Lottery revenues which intend to improve education access to high school students living in the state.

Award monies given for the scholarship vary per year as well as the available funds to support recipients. The scholarship is based on both financial need and academic achievement and can be renewed by recipients each academic year. Scholarship prizes are used to cover only tuition, and not other related education expenses.

Eligibility Criteria For State Lottery Scholarship

Students who wish to apply for the New Mexico State Lottery Scholarship must be able to provide the following requirements:

  • Permanent residency in the State of New Mexico
  • Proof of graduation from a New Mexico high school, such as a diploma or GED
  • Have a minimum of 2.5 GPA and should be enrolled full-time each semester of the academic year.
  • Enrollment in any of the 25 public colleges, junior colleges and universities located in New Mexico.

How to Apply

Primarily there is no need to apply for New Mexico State Lottery Scholarships, as students are determined qualified for the grant based on State Lottery records, although there are some colleges which require application of the Free Application for Student Aid.

Students who plan to transfer to another college or university may keep their scholarships even if tuition costs increase, as long as the institutions are located within the State of New Mexico.

Scholarship Application Deadline

There is no deadline of application for the scholarship, as the grant will be automatically given qualified recipients.
