The Nursing Scholarship Fund was established in 1990 by the General Assembly of Indiana to promote nursing education and people interested in nursing as a career option in the state of Indiana. Up to $5,000 worth of scholarship money are given to qualified students each academic year, and this can be used to pay for various needs such as tuition, miscellaneous, books, and other necessary expenses. Through this scholarship, students may not only be able to finish degrees in nursing, but as well continue further education and advancement towards degrees in medicine.

Eligibility

To qualify for the Indiana Nursing Scholarship Fund, student applicants must be firstly an U.S citizen and second, must be an Indiana resident. They should also be accepted full time in an Indiana college or university taking up a certificate or bachelor’s degree in nursing. They must as well possess a GPA of at least 2.0, and last but not least, since the Nursing scholarship fund is a need based fund, the applicant must demonstrate financial need.

Applicants are also required to file their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and applicants must not be in default on a federal or state sponsored student loan. Finally there are also school specific requirements that have to be met depending on the institution the student is enrolled in.

How to Apply To The Nursing Scholarship Fund

To apply for the scholarship, applicants may download an application form at http://www.in.gov/ssaci/files/2009-10-44533-nur_f.pdf. They should as well submit a transcript of records, proof of residence in the State of Indiana and finally, proof of financial need.

Keep in mind that applicants who receive the Nursing Scholarships are obligated to practice full-time as nurses in any Indiana health care facility for two years after graduation. During this period they should provide the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana with their current home and employment addresses. Failure to adhere to these stipulations and submit the required documentation and or fulfill nursing obligations will mean refund of the scholarship money plus collection cost.
